ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Universal clipboard shortcuts (Super+C/V/X) fail with 'send_key_state: key not found' on non-Latin keyboard layouts (e.g. Arabic)revision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 12:03 UTC via poll

System details

  • Hardware: 12th Gen Intel Core i7-12700H, Intel Iris Xe Graphics
  • OS & Desktop: Omarchy 4.0.1-1 (Arch Linux Kernel 7.1.9), Hyprland 0.56.2

What's wrong?

Description

When pressing universal clipboard shortcuts (SUPER + C for copy, SUPER + V for paste, SUPER + X for cut) while a non-Latin keyboard layout (such as Arabic ar) is active, Hyprland raises repeated Lua runtime error notifications:

Runtime error in lua:
=[C]:-1: send_key_state: key not found

Root Cause

In /usr/share/omarchy/default/hypr/bindings/clipboard.lua, universal shortcuts are dispatched using character string names:

hl.dispatch(hl.dsp.send_key_state({ mods = mods, key = key, state = "down" }))

Hyprland's resolveKeycode function attempts to resolve "C", "V", and "X" against the currently active XKB layout group. Because the active layout is Arabic (ar), the Latin keysyms "C", "V", and "X" do not exist in that layout table, causing key resolution to fail.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Configure Hyprland with multiple keyboard layouts including a non-Latin layout (e.g., kb_layout = us,ar in ~/.config/hypr/input.lua).
  2. Switch the active layout to Arabic (ar).
  3. Press SUPER + C, SUPER + V, or SUPER + X.
  4. Observe the Lua runtime error popup: send_key_state: key not found.

Suggested Fix

In default/hypr/bindings/clipboard.lua, reference evdev keycodes directly (e.g. code:46 for C, code:47 for V, code:45 for X) to bypass active layout lookup:

o.bind("SUPER + C", "Universal copy", universal_clipboard_shortcut("CTRL", "code:46", "CTRL", "Insert"))
o.bind("SUPER + V", "Universal paste", universal_clipboard_shortcut("CTRL", "code:47", "SHIFT", "Insert"))
o.bind("SUPER + X", "Universal cut", send_shortcut_once("CTRL", "code:45"))

### What's wrong?

#### Description
When pressing universal clipboard shortcuts (`SUPER + C` for copy, `SUPER + V` for paste, `SUPER + X` for cut) while a non-Latin keyboard layout (such as Arabic `ar`) is active, Hyprland raises repeated Lua runtime error notifications:

```text
Runtime error in lua:
=[C]:-1: send_key_state: key not found
```

#### Root Cause
In `/usr/share/omarchy/default/hypr/bindings/clipboard.lua`, universal shortcuts are dispatched using character string names:
```lua
hl.dispatch(hl.dsp.send_key_state({ mods = mods, key = key, state = "down" }))
```
Hyprland's `resolveKeycode` function attempts to resolve `"C"`, `"V"`, and `"X"` against the **currently active** XKB layout group. Because the active layout is Arabic (`ar`), the Latin keysyms `"C"`, `"V"`, and `"X"` do not exist in that layout table, causing key resolution to fail.

#### Steps to Reproduce
1. Configure Hyprland with multiple keyboard layouts including a non-Latin layout (e.g., `kb_layout = us,ar` in `~/.config/hypr/input.lua`).
2. Switch the active layout to Arabic (`ar`).
3. Press `SUPER + C`, `SUPER + V`, or `SUPER + X`.
4. Observe the Lua runtime error popup: `send_key_state: key not found`.

#### Suggested Fix
In `default/hypr/bindings/clipboard.lua`, reference evdev keycodes directly (e.g. `code:46` for `C`, `code:47` for `V`, `code:45` for `X`) to bypass active layout lookup:
```lua
o.bind("SUPER + C", "Universal copy", universal_clipboard_shortcut("CTRL", "code:46", "CTRL", "Insert"))
o.bind("SUPER + V", "Universal paste", universal_clipboard_shortcut("CTRL", "code:47", "SHIFT", "Insert"))
o.bind("SUPER + X", "Universal cut", send_shortcut_once("CTRL", "code:45"))
```
