Project overview

Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Issues that forced me to switch back to Windowsrevision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 12:03 UTC via poll

System details

System Information Laptop: HP Laptop 15-da0xxx CPU: Intel Core i3-7020U @ 2.30 GHz GPU: Intel HD Graphics 620 RAM: 8 GB Kernel: Linux 7.1.8-1-cachyos Desktop/WM: Hyprland Distribution: Omarchy Filesystem: Btrfs Wi-Fi: Realtek RTL8723DE PCIe Wireless Network Adapter Bluetooth: Realtek Bluetooth 4.2

What's wrong?

I really like Omarchy, but I ran into a few issues that made it difficult to use as my daily driver, so I had to switch back to Windows.

  1. Wi-Fi unavailable after cold boot

Hardware: Realtek RTL8723DE PCIe Wireless Network Adapter

The Wi-Fi adapter is sometimes unavailable after a cold boot.

The strange part is that it can work normally after certain restarts/reboots, but after shutting the laptop down completely and powering it back on, Wi-Fi may not be available.

This makes the system unreliable for daily use because I can't depend on having a network connection after boot.

  1. Video streaming repeatedly starts lagging

Browser video playback on streaming sites was unreliable.

The video would sometimes start lagging/stuttering or fail to buffer properly, even though:

Wi-Fi was connected.
Internet access was working.
Other network activity appeared normal.

Reconnecting the Wi-Fi would temporarily fix the problem, and the video would play normally again.

However, the problem would eventually return, requiring another Wi-Fi reconnect.

So the issue seemed to be more than simply having a slow internet connection.

  1. GUI-based keybinding editor

I'd really like to have a GUI-based way to change keybindings/shortcuts.

I found the Hyprland configuration file and tried changing the keybindings manually, but some changes didn't seem to work as expected.

At one point I accidentally corrupted the configuration. Fortunately, I was able to repair it through the rescue-mode terminal/login.

For users who aren't comfortable manually editing Hyprland configuration files, this is quite risky.

A simple GUI for:

Viewing current keybindings
Changing a shortcut
Adding/removing custom shortcuts
Detecting conflicting shortcuts
Restoring/defaulting a shortcut

would make configuration much more approachable.

Overall

None of these issues individually would necessarily make me abandon Omarchy, but together they made the system unreliable enough that I had to switch back to Windows.

I'd love to come back to Omarchy once the Wi-Fi/streaming reliability is improved and there is a safer, more user-friendly way to manage keybindings.
