Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

omarchy-hw-touchpad fails to detect Apple bcm5974 trackpad (name-pattern match too strict)revision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 12:03 UTC via poll

What happened

omarchy toggle touchpad (and the underlying omarchy-hw-touchpad) reports
"No touchpad device found" and does nothing on a MacBook whose built-in
trackpad is exposed to Hyprland under the raw driver name bcm5974, not
*touchpad*/*trackpad*.

Root cause

omarchy-hw-touchpad resolves the device with:

hyprctl devices -j | jq -r '[.mice[] | .name | select(test("touchpad|trackpad"; "i"))] | first // empty'

This only matches device names containing "touchpad" or "trackpad". Apple's
bcm5974 trackpad driver reports itself to libinput/Hyprland simply as
bcm5974, so it never matches — every command chained through it
(omarchy-toggle-touchpad, omarchy toggle touchpad) silently fails instead
of controlling the device.

Expected

omarchy toggle touchpad on|off|toggle should recognize and control the
built-in trackpad on this hardware.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Boot Omarchy on a Mac with the Apple bcm5974 trackpad (e.g. a

2013/2014 MacBook with an Intel Haswell iGPU).
2. Run omarchy hw touchpad — prints nothing.
3. Run omarchy toggle touchpad off — OSD says "No touchpad device found";
the trackpad stays enabled.

Suggested fix

Broaden detection — e.g. also match known non-standard libinput touchpad
driver names like bcm5974, or resolve by device type/capability from
hyprctl devices -j instead of a name substring match.

System details

  • Omarchy: 4.0.1-1
  • Hyprland: 0.56.2
  • Kernel: 7.1.9-arch1-2 (Arch x86_64)
  • Hardware: 2013/2014-era MacBook, Intel Haswell-ULT iGPU (i915), Apple

internal keyboard/trackpad (hid_apple, applesmc, bcm5974 kernel
modules)
- Device name reported by Hyprland (hyprctl devices -j, .mice[]): bcm5974

Workaround

Calling hyprctl eval 'hl.device({ name = "bcm5974", enabled = <bool> })'
directly with the hardcoded device name, tracking enabled/disabled state in
a local script bound to a keybinding.

## Root cause
