A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

omarchy-menu-keybindings: Infinite loop during cache generation due to ipairs on noop objectrevision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 12:03 UTC via poll

What happened

When running omarchy-menu-keybindings, the script hangs infinitely and fails to display the keybindings menu.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Enable a Hyprland plugin configuration that iterates over hl.get_loaded_plugins() using ipairs() (e.g., the wmfeht.border-fx plugin).
  2. Run omarchy-menu-keybindings --print or trigger the menu.
  3. The Lua scan script within omarchy-menu-keybindings hangs indefinitely.

Why it happens

The noop object in the mock Lua environment uses __index = function() return noop end. When ipairs() iterates over it, it expects nil at the end of the sequence to terminate the loop. Because noop returns itself for all keys (including integer indices), ipairs() loops forever.

Proposed fix

Modify the noop object's __index metamethod to return nil for number keys:

  __index = function(_, k)
    if type(k) == "number" then return nil end
    return noop
  end,
