ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

SUPER + J (togglesplit) raises "no such layoutmsg for scrolling" on scrolling-layout workspacesrevision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 12:03 UTC via poll

What happened

The default SUPER + J binding ("Toggle window split") throws a Lua error on any workspace using the scrolling layout:

error: =[C]:-1: no such layoutmsg for scrolling

The binding in default/hypr/bindings/tiling.lua:4 is:

o.bind("SUPER + J", "Toggle window split", hl.dsp.layout("togglesplit"))

togglesplit is a dwindle-only layout message, but the binding is registered unconditionally. Since SUPER + L ("Toggle workspace layout", omarchy-hyprland-workspace-layout-toggle) lets any workspace switch to scrolling, pressing SUPER + J there is a guaranteed error rather than a no-op.

Expected

SUPER + J should be a no-op (or do something meaningful) on scrolling workspaces, not raise a Lua error overlay.

Steps to reproduce

  1. On a fresh workspace, press SUPER + L to switch the workspace layout to scrolling.
  • Confirm with hyprctl activeworkspace | grep tiledLayout → tiledLayout: scrolling
  1. Press SUPER + J.
  2. The Lua error above appears.

Reproducible directly without the keybinding:

$ hyprctl dispatch "hl.dsp.layout('togglesplit')"
error: =[C]:-1: no such layoutmsg for scrolling

Workaround

Guarding the dispatch on the active workspace's layout works, in ~/.config/hypr/bindings.lua:

hl.unbind("SUPER + J")
hl.bind("SUPER + J", function()
  local workspace = hl.get_active_workspace()
  if workspace and workspace.tiled_layout == "dwindle" then
    hl.dispatch(hl.dsp.layout("togglesplit"))
  end
end, { description = "Toggle window split" })

Other dwindle-only bindings may have the same problem — SUPER + P (hl.dsp.window.pseudo()) looks like a candidate.

### What happened

The default `SUPER + J` binding ("Toggle window split") throws a Lua error on any workspace using the **scrolling** layout:

```
error: =[C]:-1: no such layoutmsg for scrolling
```

The binding in `default/hypr/bindings/tiling.lua:4` is:

```lua
o.bind("SUPER + J", "Toggle window split", hl.dsp.layout("togglesplit"))
```

`togglesplit` is a dwindle-only layout message, but the binding is registered unconditionally. Since `SUPER + L` ("Toggle workspace layout", `omarchy-hyprland-workspace-layout-toggle`) lets any workspace switch to `scrolling`, pressing `SUPER + J` there is a guaranteed error rather than a no-op.

### Expected

`SUPER + J` should be a no-op (or do something meaningful) on scrolling workspaces, not raise a Lua error overlay.

### Steps to reproduce

1. On a fresh workspace, press `SUPER + L` to switch the workspace layout to `scrolling`.
   - Confirm with `hyprctl activeworkspace | grep tiledLayout` → `tiledLayout: scrolling`
2. Press `SUPER + J`.
3. The Lua error above appears.

Reproducible directly without the keybinding:

### Workaround

Guarding the dispatch on the active workspace's layout works, in `~/.config/hypr/bindings.lua`:

```lua
hl.unbind("SUPER + J")
hl.bind("SUPER + J", function()
  local workspace = hl.get_active_workspace()
  if workspace and workspace.tiled_layout == "dwindle" then
    hl.dispatch(hl.dsp.layout("togglesplit"))
  end
end, { description = "Toggle window split" })
```

Other dwindle-only bindings may have the same problem — `SUPER + P` (`hl.dsp.window.pseudo()`) looks like a candidate.
