ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

omarchy toggle bar on/off arguments are invertedrevision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

What happened

omarchy toggle bar on hides the bar, and omarchy toggle bar off shows it — the explicit on/off arguments are inverted from their obvious meaning. Plain omarchy toggle bar (no argument) works correctly since it just flips whatever state currently exists.

Root cause

omarchy-toggle-bar passes the literal on/off argument straight through to the underlying bar-off flag toggle:

#!/bin/bash

# omarchy:summary=Toggle bar visibility without killing the Omarchy shell
# omarchy:args=[toggle|on|off]
# omarchy:examples=omarchy toggle bar | omarchy toggle bar off | omarchy toggle bar on

omarchy-toggle bar-off "${1:-toggle}"

omarchy-shell -q omarchy.bar syncHidden

omarchy-toggle <flag> on sets the flag, and omarchy-toggle <flag> off clears it. Since the flag here is named bar-off, passing on sets bar-off (hides the bar) and passing off clears bar-off (shows the bar) — backwards from what a user calling omarchy toggle bar on/off would expect.

Expected

  • omarchy toggle bar on should show the bar (clear the bar-off flag).
  • omarchy toggle bar off should hide the bar (set the bar-off flag).

A fix would invert the passthrough, e.g.:

case "${1:-toggle}" in
  on) omarchy-toggle bar-off off ;;
  off) omarchy-toggle bar-off on ;;
  *) omarchy-toggle bar-off toggle ;;
esac

Steps to reproduce

  1. omarchy toggle bar off — bar becomes visible (or stays visible if already shown).
  2. omarchy toggle bar on — bar disappears.

System details

  • Omarchy version: 4.0.4-1
  • Discovered while diagnosing a disappeared top bar, traced to a stray ~/.local/state/omarchy/toggles/bar-off flag file left over from a prior accidental toggle.

## What happened

`omarchy toggle bar on` hides the bar, and `omarchy toggle bar off` shows it — the explicit `on`/`off` arguments are inverted from their obvious meaning. Plain `omarchy toggle bar` (no argument) works correctly since it just flips whatever state currently exists.

## Root cause

`omarchy-toggle-bar` passes the literal `on`/`off` argument straight through to the underlying `bar-off` flag toggle:

```bash
#!/bin/bash
# omarchy:summary=Toggle bar visibility without killing the Omarchy shell
# omarchy:args=[toggle|on|off]
# omarchy:examples=omarchy toggle bar | omarchy toggle bar off | omarchy toggle bar on
omarchy-toggle bar-off "${1:-toggle}"
omarchy-shell -q omarchy.bar syncHidden
```

`omarchy-toggle <flag> on` *sets* the flag, and `omarchy-toggle <flag> off` *clears* it. Since the flag here is named `bar-off`, passing `on` sets `bar-off` (hides the bar) and passing `off` clears `bar-off` (shows the bar) — backwards from what a user calling `omarchy toggle bar on/off` would expect.

## Expected

- `omarchy toggle bar on` should show the bar (clear the `bar-off` flag).
- `omarchy toggle bar off` should hide the bar (set the `bar-off` flag).

A fix would invert the passthrough, e.g.:

```bash
case "${1:-toggle}" in
  on) omarchy-toggle bar-off off ;;
  off) omarchy-toggle bar-off on ;;
  *) omarchy-toggle bar-off toggle ;;
esac
```

## Steps to reproduce

1. `omarchy toggle bar off` — bar becomes visible (or stays visible if already shown).
2. `omarchy toggle bar on` — bar disappears.
