Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Emoji picker's synthetic paste (Shift+Insert) doesn't work in Zen Browserrevision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 12:10 UTC via poll

What happened

Selecting an emoji from the Omarchy emoji picker (Super+Ctrl+E) copies it
to the clipboard, but the auto-paste into the focused field silently does
nothing in Zen Browser — the clipboard is briefly populated (and then
self-cleared by the script, as intended) but nothing gets typed into the
page. Confirmed across multiple sites/fields: Gmail compose, YouTube
comments, Reddit comments, Facebook comments.

Confirmed working (with the stock script, unmodified) in:
- Ghostty (tested with the built-in agent terminal, which runs inside Ghostty)
- Omawrite

So this appears to be specific to Zen Browser (Firefox-based), not a
general Wayland/terminal-vs-GUI split.

Expected

The emoji should be typed into whatever field is focused, the same way it
already works in Ghostty and in Omawrite.

Root cause

omarchy-menu-emoji-insert pastes via a synthetic key event:

wtype -M shift -k Insert -m shift

This synthetic Shift+Insert (delivered through the Wayland
virtual-keyboard-unstable-v1 protocol) is silently ignored specifically by
Zen Browser, even though:
- Real hardware Shift+Insert and Ctrl+V paste correctly in Zen.
- Synthetic Shift+Insert does work in Ghostty and in Omawrite.

I tested other synthetic key combos via wtype directly against Zen
(bypassing the plugin entirely, just wl-copy + wtype against whatever
had focus):

Combo (synthetic, via wtype)GhosttyZen BrowserOmawrite
Shift+Insert (current default)✅❌✅
Ctrl+Shift+V✅✅❌
Ctrl+V (plain)✅✅✅

Plain synthetic Ctrl+V was the only combo that worked across all three apps
I tested — but see the caveat in the comments below: it's not safe to
adopt as a blanket replacement, since at least one other terminal (foot)
reportedly treats Ctrl+V as "insert next character literally" and swallows
the following keystroke instead of pasting. So a fix likely needs to target
Zen/browsers specifically rather than replacing the paste combo globally.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Focus a text field in Zen Browser (e.g. a comment box on Reddit/YouTube,

or a Gmail compose window).
2. Press Super+Ctrl+E to open the emoji picker.
3. Click any emoji.
4. Observe: the picker closes, but nothing is typed into the field.

System details

  • Omarchy: 4.0.3-1
  • Hyprland: 0.56.2 (commit efb50993780079460b0cbed1363e2166a2de1d9f)
  • Kernel: 7.2.3-arch1-3
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-10700F
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (nvidia driver)
  • Dual-monitor setup

Workaround applied locally

Cloned the plugin (omarchy plugin clone omarchy.emojis) and changed the
paste key combo to wtype -M ctrl -k v -m ctrl in a local copy of the
insert script. This works for my own setup (Ghostty + Zen + Omawrite), but
per the caveat above, isn't necessarily safe as a global default for
everyone — see comments.
