Omarchy
ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirementsA proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). System details
AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with Radeon Graphics, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Mobile / Max-Q, Omarchy 4.0.4-1
What's wrong?
Hi everyone, I'm trying to solve a strange GPU acceleration problem with Chrome on my laptop.
System
- Omarchy
4.0.4-1 - Hyprland / Wayland
- Chrome
153.0.8010.47 - AMD Cezanne iGPU
- NVIDIA RTX 3060 Laptop GPU
- NVIDIA driver
610.57.04 - Mesa
26.2.2 - Kernel
7.2.5-3-omarchy
Both GPUs are detected correctly by Vulkan.
The problem
Without Vulkan:
YouTube → works
Video Decode → Hardware accelerated
WebGPU → no adapterWith:
--ozone-platform=wayland
--enable-features=VulkanI get:
YouTube → completely white
Video Decode → Hardware accelerated
WebGPU → worksSo basically:
Vulkan OFF → YouTube works, WebGPU doesn't
Vulkan ON → WebGPU works, YouTube is whiteVA-API
vainfo works correctly and detects the NVIDIA NVDEC VA-API driver with support for H.264, HEVC, VP9 and AV1.
I also tested:
LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=radeonsito force the AMD VA-API driver, but YouTube was still white when Vulkan was enabled.
Chromium errors
When Vulkan is enabled, I get errors such as:
eglCreateImage failed with 0x00003009
Unable to initialize binding from pixmap
OzoneImageBacking::ProduceSkiaGanesh failed to create GL representation
SharedImageManager: Trying to produce a Skia representation from an incompatible backingI also see:
CompoundImageBacking: Could not find or create a backing for stream kSkiaWhen Vulkan is disabled, YouTube works.
Media decoding
I checked chrome://media-internals.
For one YouTube AV1 video, Chrome tried VA-API but rejected it:
Cannot select VaapiVideoDecoder
kUnsupportedConfigand then used:
Dav1dVideoDecoderSo that particular video was software-decoded.
I also confirmed that Chrome reports H.264 as supported through MediaCapabilities.
What I've tried
- Removed
--render-node-override - Removed
--use-gl=desktop - Tested NVIDIA and AMD VA-API
- Tested with and without Vulkan
- Tested clean Chrome profiles
- Tested hardware overlays
- Tested WebGPU/Vulkan interop
- Checked
vainfo,vulkaninfo,chrome://gpuandchrome://media-internals
I also tried enhanced-h264ify, but it didn't work reliably.
What I'm trying to figure out
It looks like there is some conflict between Vulkan/WebGPU and Chrome's video presentation path on my hybrid AMD/NVIDIA setup.
Has anyone experienced something similar with:
Omarchy + Hyprland + Wayland + NVIDIA/AMD hybrid graphics + Chrome/Chromium + Vulkan + VA-API?
I'm mainly looking for ideas on how to get WebGPU and YouTube hardware video playback working at the same time.
