Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Rapid fan cycling persists after switching from linux-omarchy to stock Arch kernel on ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10revision 1 · captured 2026-10-04 12:10 UTC via poll

Description

After Omarchy installed and selected linux-omarchy, the laptop fans began rapidly spinning up and stopping. The behavior does not occur when booting the stock Arch linux kernel on the same installation.

Expected behavior

Fan control should behave as it does with the stock Arch kernel, without rapid start/stop cycling at ordinary temperatures.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Boot the stock Arch linux 7.2.3.arch1-3 kernel: fan behavior is normal.
  2. Boot linux-omarchy 7.2.5-3: rapid fan start/stop cycling begins.

System details

  • Omarchy: 4.0.4-1
  • Hardware: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 (21CBS0AG00)
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-1270P
  • GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics (Alder Lake-P GT2)
  • BIOS/EC: BIOS N3AET91W (1.56), EC N3AHT54W
  • Affected kernel: 7.2.5-3-omarchy
  • Working kernel: 7.2.3-arch1-3

Diagnostics

While the problem was present:

  • thinkpad_acpi detected secondary fan control.
  • Fan 1 reported the invalid/unavailable value 65535 RPM continuously.
  • Fan 2 remained approximately 3180–3320 RPM.
  • The generic ACPI fan interface reported 0 RPM while its cooling-device state remained enabled (state=1).
  • ThinkPad firmware temperature remained approximately 48–51°C; this was not a critical-temperature event.
  • No userspace fan-control daemon was running.
  • thinkpad_acpi fan control remained automatic (fan_control=N, pwm1_enable=2).
  • Both kernels detect the ACPI fan and ThinkPad secondary fan, but only linux-omarchy exhibits the audible cycling.

The installed Omarchy version does not expose the documented omarchy debug --no-sudo --print command; it returns Unknown Omarchy command, so no debug-log URL is available.

## Description

After Omarchy installed and selected `linux-omarchy`, the laptop fans began rapidly spinning up and stopping. The behavior does not occur when booting the stock Arch `linux` kernel on the same installation.

## Expected behavior

Fan control should behave as it does with the stock Arch kernel, without rapid start/stop cycling at ordinary temperatures.

## Steps to reproduce

1. Boot the stock Arch `linux 7.2.3.arch1-3` kernel: fan behavior is normal.
2. Boot `linux-omarchy 7.2.5-3`: rapid fan start/stop cycling begins.

## System details

- Omarchy: `4.0.4-1`
- Hardware: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 10 (`21CBS0AG00`)
- CPU: Intel Core i7-1270P
- GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics (Alder Lake-P GT2)
- BIOS/EC: BIOS `N3AET91W (1.56)`, EC `N3AHT54W`
- Affected kernel: `7.2.5-3-omarchy`
- Working kernel: `7.2.3-arch1-3`

## Diagnostics

While the problem was present:

- `thinkpad_acpi` detected secondary fan control.
- Fan 1 reported the invalid/unavailable value `65535 RPM` continuously.
- Fan 2 remained approximately `3180–3320 RPM`.
- The generic ACPI fan interface reported `0 RPM` while its cooling-device state remained enabled (`state=1`).
- ThinkPad firmware temperature remained approximately `48–51°C`; this was not a critical-temperature event.
- No userspace fan-control daemon was running.
- `thinkpad_acpi` fan control remained automatic (`fan_control=N`, `pwm1_enable=2`).
- Both kernels detect the ACPI fan and ThinkPad secondary fan, but only `linux-omarchy` exhibits the audible cycling.

The installed Omarchy version does not expose the documented `omarchy debug --no-sudo --print` command; it returns `Unknown Omarchy command`, so no debug-log URL is available.
