What's wrong?

Summary

Following commit 902fd8ae ("Play matching background intros at boot and on theme switches"), switching themes causes the screen to go completely black on hybrid GPU laptops (AMD + NVIDIA).

Steps to Reproduce

  1. On a dual-GPU laptop (AMD Renoir iGPU + NVIDIA GTX 1650 Ti dGPU) running Hyprland/Wayland:
  2. Trigger a theme change (e.g., omarchy theme set "White" or omarchy theme set "Matte Black").
  3. The screen turns black during the theme transition.

Expected Behavior

The theme background transition video plays smoothly or crossfades to the new static background without turning the screen black.

Actual Behavior

  • omarchy-theme-set signals the wallpaper daemon (owed) to play the intro:
  owed INFO: shell background disabled
  owed INFO: intro playing: .../backgrounds/intros/0-ship-at-sea.mp4
  • With the shell background disabled, owe-render attempts to stream video through libmpv (hwdec=auto-safe). On dual-GPU hybrid setups under Wayland, the video layer fails to present frames properly, leaving the screen completely black.
  • Concurrently, omarchy-restart-hyprctl reloads Hyprland (hyprctl reload), causing output modesetting flicker.
  • Workaround: Running omarchy toggle background-intros-off on disables the video intros and restores instant, clean static transitions without screen blackouts.
