Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Edge Arch mirror serves Qt 6.12 while the shell package is still pre-#14553, so Super+Space goes blackrevision 1 · captured 2026-10-08 18:08 UTC via poll

System details

Edge channel, not stable. omarchy version channel prints edge. [omarchy] is https://pkgs.omarchy.org/edge/$arch. core/extra/multilib come from https://mirror.omarchy.org/$repo/os/$arch. The stable Arch mirror on this install is the unused backup https://stable-mirror.omarchy.org.

AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, Intel Arc A770 (i915) plus AMD Raphael 610M (unused), ASUS TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS WIFI, kernel 7.2.5-4-omarchy, Hyprland 0.56.2-4. Installed shell package is omarchy 4.0.4-1 (installed 2026-09-16), not omarchy-dev. Wayland on DP-3, 3840×2160 at scale 1.25. Theme: matte-black.

What omarchy update installed from the edge Arch mirror on 2026-10-08 20:50 IDT:

  • qt6-base 6.11.2-3 → 6.12.0-2 (extra)
  • qt6-declarative 6.12.0-1
  • qt6-wayland 6.11.2-1 → 6.12.0-1
  • quickshell 0.3.1-1 → 0.3.2-1 (extra on the edge mirror; the edge Omarchy repo also has quickshell 0.3.2-2)

The update then restarted the shell. Hyprland reloaded with no hyprctl configerrors.

What's wrong?

Super+Space (omarchy-menu toggle) paints an opaque black fullscreen layer instead of the menu card. Same layer for Super+Escape. This is Qt 6.12's QtQuick.Color singleton shadowing qs.Commons.Color. That is fixed on main by #14553 (merged 2026-10-08 08:27 UTC, b83d3df) and already closed in #14548, #14560, and #14570.

The earlier wording of this issue was wrong about who gets the Qt package. A non-edge update does not currently get qt6-base 6.12.0. Checked just now against the two mirrors:

packageedge mirror.omarchy.org extrastable stable-mirror.omarchy.org extra
qt6-base6.12.0-26.11.2-3
qt6-declarative6.12.0-16.11.2-1
qt6-wayland6.12.0-16.11.2-1
quickshell0.3.2-10.3.1-1

Both Omarchy package repos still publish omarchy 4.0.4-1. Edge also publishes omarchy-dev 4.0.0.r6807.g902fd8a-2. 902fd8a (2026-10-07 20:00 UTC) is the parent of the fix: 902fd8a...b83d3df is ahead by that one commit and behind by none. So edge's shell package does not contain #14553, and edge's Arch mirror already serves Qt 6.12. That combination is what blacked out this desktop. Stable is still on Qt 6.11.2 and would not hit it from a channel update today.

Steps

  1. Be on the edge channel (mirror.omarchy.org for extra).
  2. Update so qt6-base is 6.12.0 and the shell restarts.
  3. Press Super+Space.

Expected: the root menu card over a dimmed desktop.

Actual: the omarchy-menu layer is a 3072×1728 overlay and a grim capture is 100% #000000. The shell journal fills with Cannot read property 'background' of undefined and Unable to assign [undefined] to QColor. hyprctl reload and omarchy restart shell do not help. Escape closes the black layer.

Workaround

Pinning every bare import QtQuick in /usr/share/omarchy/shell to import QtQuick 6.11 (103 files) and restarting the shell made Super+Space draw the menu again. That edit is inside the packaged tree, so the next package update will wipe it. The real fix is publishing a build that contains #14553 to edge, whose Arch mirror already moved to Qt 6.12.
