Omarchy
ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirementsA proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report
What happened
The "Download Video" (yt-dlp, Alt+Shift+D) and "Copy URL" (Alt+Shift+L) extensions load correctly in Brave Origin — the keyboard shortcuts show up and are bound in chrome://extensions/shortcuts — but pressing either does nothing: no download starts, nothing is copied, no notification appears.
Root cause
omarchy-install-chromium-ytdlp and omarchy-install-chromium-copy-url each hard-code a list of browser profile directories to install the native-messaging-host manifest into:
browser_dirs=(
"$HOME/.config/chromium"
"$HOME/.config/google-chrome"
"$HOME/.config/google-chrome-beta"
"$HOME/.config/google-chrome-unstable"
"$HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser"
"$HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser-Beta"
"$HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser-Nightly"
"$HOME/.config/microsoft-edge"
"$HOME/.config/microsoft-edge-dev"
)$HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin is missing from both lists, even though omarchy install browser brave-origin is a supported option in omarchy-install-browser and does add the --load-extension=... flags (copy-url, yt-dlp, whatsapp-slim) to ~/.config/brave-origin-flags.conf.
Net effect: the extensions load and register their keyboard shortcuts in Brave Origin, but chrome.runtime.sendNativeMessage(...) has no manifest to resolve, so both commands fail silently (the extension code ignores chrome.runtime.lastError).
Confirmed on disk:
$ ls ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts/
(empty)
$ ls ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/NativeMessagingHosts/
com.omarchy.copy_url.json com.omarchy.ytdlp.jsonSecondary observation (may be a separate/related typo)
The backfill migration migrations/1780517689.sh (adds the yt-dlp --load-extension flag to existing flags files) lists brave-origin-beta but not plain brave-origin:
for conf in chromium chrome google-chrome brave brave-beta brave-nightly brave-origin-beta microsoft-edge-stable; doThis didn't affect my case (my brave-origin-flags.conf already had the extension via a fresh omarchy install browser brave-origin), but it means a pre-existing Brave Origin install that predates the yt-dlp extension would never get backfilled either.
Expected
Both omarchy-install-chromium-ytdlp and omarchy-install-chromium-copy-url should also populate $HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts/, and the migration should include brave-origin (not just brave-origin-beta).
Steps to reproduce
omarchy install browser brave-origin- Launch Brave Origin, open any page
- Press
Alt+Shift+D(orAlt+Shift+L) - Nothing happens. Compare
~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts/(empty) against~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/NativeMessagingHosts/(has both manifests, if Brave proper is also installed)
Workaround
Manually copy the two native-messaging manifests into the missing directory, substituting __HOST_PATH__ with the real host script path:
mkdir -p ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts
sed "s|__HOST_PATH__|/usr/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-chromium-ytdlp-host|g" \
/usr/share/omarchy/default/chromium/native-messaging-hosts/com.omarchy.ytdlp.json \
> ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts/com.omarchy.ytdlp.json
sed "s|__HOST_PATH__|/usr/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-chromium-copy-url-host|g" \
/usr/share/omarchy/default/chromium/native-messaging-hosts/com.omarchy.copy_url.json \
> ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts/com.omarchy.copy_url.jsonThen fully quit and relaunch Brave Origin.

### What happened The "Download Video" (yt-dlp, Alt+Shift+D) and "Copy URL" (Alt+Shift+L) extensions load correctly in **Brave Origin** — the keyboard shortcuts show up and are bound in `chrome://extensions/shortcuts` — but pressing either does nothing: no download starts, nothing is copied, no notification appears. ### Root cause `omarchy-install-chromium-ytdlp` and `omarchy-install-chromium-copy-url` each hard-code a list of browser profile directories to install the native-messaging-host manifest into: ``` browser_dirs=( "$HOME/.config/chromium" "$HOME/.config/google-chrome" "$HOME/.config/google-chrome-beta" "$HOME/.config/google-chrome-unstable" "$HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser" "$HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser-Beta" "$HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser-Nightly" "$HOME/.config/microsoft-edge" "$HOME/.config/microsoft-edge-dev" ) ``` `$HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin` is missing from both lists, even though `omarchy install browser brave-origin` is a supported option in `omarchy-install-browser` and does add the `--load-extension=...` flags (copy-url, yt-dlp, whatsapp-slim) to `~/.config/brave-origin-flags.conf`. Net effect: the extensions load and register their keyboard shortcuts in Brave Origin, but `chrome.runtime.sendNativeMessage(...)` has no manifest to resolve, so both commands fail silently (the extension code ignores `chrome.runtime.lastError`). Confirmed on disk: ``` $ ls ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts/ (empty) $ ls ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser/NativeMessagingHosts/ com.omarchy.copy_url.json com.omarchy.ytdlp.json ``` ### Secondary observation (may be a separate/related typo) The backfill migration `migrations/1780517689.sh` (adds the yt-dlp `--load-extension` flag to existing flags files) lists `brave-origin-beta` but not plain `brave-origin`: ``` for conf in chromium chrome google-chrome brave brave-beta brave-nightly brave-origin-beta microsoft-edge-stable; do ``` This didn't affect my case (my `brave-origin-flags.conf` already had the extension via a fresh `omarchy install browser brave-origin`), but it means a pre-existing Brave Origin install that predates the yt-dlp extension would never get backfilled either. ### Expected Both `omarchy-install-chromium-ytdlp` and `omarchy-install-chromium-copy-url` should also populate `$HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts/`, and the migration should include `brave-origin` (not just `brave-origin-beta`). ### Steps to reproduce 1. `omarchy install browser brave-origin` 2.
