Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Numpad keys do nothing in the Omarchy menu search fieldrevision 1 · captured 2026-10-11 03:16 UTC via poll

What happened

While the Omarchy menu is open, pressing any key on the numeric keypad (digits and operators) does nothing — the keystrokes never reach the search field. The main number row works normally.

Root cause

shell/plugins/menu/Menu.qml only appends typed text when the event carries exactly no modifier or Shift (line ~1270 on main, ~1113 in 4.0.4):

} else if (event.text && event.text.length === 1
           && event.text.charCodeAt(0) >= 32 && event.text.charCodeAt(0) !== 127
           && (event.modifiers === Qt.NoModifier || event.modifiers === Qt.ShiftModifier)) {
  root.setFilter(root.filterText + event.text)

Every numeric-keypad key sets Qt.KeypadModifier on the event (including digits with NumLock on), so the strict-equality test fails and the key is silently dropped. The identical exact-match check also exists in shell/plugins/image-picker/ImagePicker.qml (line ~429).

The clipboard, emojis, and reminders panels do not perform this exact-modifier check, so numpad input works there — which is why only the menu (and image picker) are affected.

Expected

Numpad digits/operators should type into the search field exactly like the number-row keys.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the Omarchy menu (Super menu key / omarchy menu).
  2. Ensure NumLock is on.
  3. Type digits/operators on the numeric keypad.
  4. Nothing appears in the search field; number-row digits appear as expected.

Suggested fix

Replace the exact-equality modifier test with a mask that only excludes real command modifiers:

&& !(event.modifiers & (Qt.ControlModifier | Qt.AltModifier | Qt.MetaModifier))

Apply the same change to shell/plugins/image-picker/ImagePicker.qml.

### What happened

While the Omarchy menu is open, pressing any key on the **numeric keypad** (digits and operators) does nothing — the keystrokes never reach the search field. The main number row works normally.

### Root cause

`shell/plugins/menu/Menu.qml` only appends typed text when the event carries *exactly* no modifier or Shift (line ~1270 on `main`, ~1113 in 4.0.4):

```qml
} else if (event.text && event.text.length === 1
           && event.text.charCodeAt(0) >= 32 && event.text.charCodeAt(0) !== 127
           && (event.modifiers === Qt.NoModifier || event.modifiers === Qt.ShiftModifier)) {
  root.setFilter(root.filterText + event.text)
```

Every numeric-keypad key sets `Qt.KeypadModifier` on the event (including digits with NumLock on), so the strict-equality test fails and the key is silently dropped. The identical exact-match check also exists in `shell/plugins/image-picker/ImagePicker.qml` (line ~429).

The clipboard, emojis, and reminders panels do *not* perform this exact-modifier check, so numpad input works there — which is why only the menu (and image picker) are affected.

### Expected

Numpad digits/operators should type into the search field exactly like the number-row keys.

### Steps to reproduce

1. Open the Omarchy menu (`Super` menu key / `omarchy menu`).
2. Ensure NumLock is on.
3. Type digits/operators on the numeric keypad.
4. Nothing appears in the search field; number-row digits appear as expected.

### Suggested fix

Replace the exact-equality modifier test with a mask that only excludes real command modifiers:

```qml
&& !(event.modifiers & (Qt.ControlModifier | Qt.AltModifier | Qt.MetaModifier))
```

Apply the same change to `shell/plugins/image-picker/ImagePicker.qml`.
