What happened
Opening the app launcher (Super+Space / omarchy menu summon root) shows a fullscreen black screen instead of the menu. Typing an app name filters: only app icons appear — no text, no card, no backdrop. The overlay stays mapped (exclusive keyboard focus grabs input) until dismissed.
Expected
Dimmed desktop + centered menu card with searchable rows and text, as designed.
Steps to reproduce
- Press
Super+Space(or runomarchy menu summon root) - Screen goes entirely black; typing shows only icons
Bisection (all verified on the affected machine)
- Reproduces on custom theme (Alucard) and stock Catppuccin → theme-independent.
- Reproduces with a fully template-generated
shell.toml(complete[menu]/[launcher]sections: background/text/border/scrim/selected-*) → not a config-shape issue. - Forced
menu.scrimto opaque magenta (#ff00ff@ 1.0) in the live theme and pushed it viaomarchy-shell shell applyThemeIPC — screen still black → the scrim value never reaches pixels. hyprctl layersshows theomarchy-menuOverlay surface mapped fullscreen 2560x1440, alpha 1, persisting.- Screenshots taken while the menu is open capture pure black; screenshots with it closed are normal.
