What's wrong?
Description
After a recent system update (pacman -Syu), Qt was upgraded from 6.11.2 to 6.12.0. Following the upgrade, the top bar has missing text/elements and renders black boxes/borders, and invoking the menu with Super + Space only displays a black background without any interactive options or text.
Log Output & Root Cause
Inspecting journalctl --user reveals the core warning and QML engine errors:
WARN: Quickshell was built against Qt 6.11.2 but the system has updated to Qt 6.12.0 without rebuilding the package. This is likely to cause crashes, so the quickshell package must be rebuilt.
And inside Bar.qml, LockView.qml, and PolkitAgent.qml, all color properties evaluate to undefined:
text
WARN scene: @plugins/bar/Bar.qml[81:-1]: TypeError: Cannot read property 'active' of undefined
WARN scene: @plugins/bar/Bar.qml[75:3]: Unable to assign [undefined] to QColor
WARN scene: @plugins/bar/Bar.qml[1333:-1]: TypeError: Cannot read property 'border' of undefined
WARN scene: @plugins/bar/Bar.qml[1332:-1]: TypeError: Cannot read property 'background' of undefined
WARN scene: @plugins/bar/Bar.qml[1341:-1]: TypeError: Cannot read property 'text' of undefined
WARN scene: @plugins/bar/Bar.qml[80:-1]: TypeError: Cannot read property 'background' of undefined
Because Color.bar, Color.tooltip, and the color surface singletons fail to initialize properly due to the Qt 6.12 ABI change with quickshell, all theme bindings collapse into undefined, leaving the UI as empty/black boxes.
Workaround / Temporary Fix
Downgrading all Qt6 modules back to 6.11.2 and locking them in /etc/pacman.conf immediately resolved the problem:
bash
sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/qt6-*-6.11.2-*.pkg.tar.zst
Expected Behavior
quickshell and omarchy shell packages need to be rebuilt against Qt 6.12.0 in the official repository, or the QML color singleton declarations should be updated to ensure compatibility with Qt 6.12 QML engine changes.View raw text
