ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Apple Silicon M1 Pro: built-in HDMI link teardown hangs Hyprland even at 1080p/60revision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

What happened

On an Apple MacBook Pro (16-inch, M1 Pro, 2021), connecting a Philips 288E2 over the built-in HDMI port causes the external monitor to show No input and makes Hyprland/Omarchy unresponsive. The failure occurs both on hot-plug and after a cold boot with the monitor already connected.

The kernel initially detects the monitor and its 35 advertised modes. It then repeatedly tears down and recreates the Apple DP-to-HDMI link. apple-drm subsequently reports flip_done timed out / commit wait timed out; Hyprland becomes unresponsive, so a compositor-level DPMS recovery cannot run.

Expected

The HDMI output should stay connected and render normally, or the desktop should recover without hanging the active session.

Environment

  • Omarchy 4.0.2-2
  • linux-asahi 7.1.13.asahi1-1 (7.1.13-1-1-ARCH)
  • Hyprland 0.56.2-3
  • Aquamarine 0.15.0-2
  • MacBook Pro (16-inch, M1 Pro, 2021); extracted Apple firmware reports 13.5
  • Built-in HDMI-A-1 (Apple's internal DP-to-HDMI bridge)
  • Philips 288E2 (detected as Philips Consumer Electronics Company PHL 288E2), direct HDMI connection

omarchy debug --no-sudo --print is not available in this Omarchy release, so no debug bundle could be generated.

Reproduction

  1. Boot with the Philips monitor attached to the built-in HDMI port, or attach it to an active Omarchy session.
  2. The monitor reports No input shortly after detection; the desktop becomes unresponsive.

The same monitor works from Windows. Replacing the cable, power-cycling the monitor, cold-booting with it connected, and disabling third-party plugins did not change the failure.

1080p/60 fallback also fails

An explicit Hyprland rule was tested:

hl.monitor({ output = "HDMI-A-1", mode = "1920x1080@60", position = "auto", scale = 1 })

The rule was applied by the driver, but did not prevent the link failure. The relevant sequence was:

09:03:50 apple-dcp ... dcp_hotplug() connected:1 valid_mode:0 nr_modes:35
09:03:50 apple-dcp ... set_digital_out_mode(...) "1920x1080": 60 ...
09:03:50 apple-dcp ... UnifiedPipeline::mode_set_gated(...): 1920x1080@60 Hz link: 1
09:03:51 apple-dcp ... DP2HDMI HPD irq, connected:0
09:03:53 apple-dcp ... dcp_hotplug() connected:1 valid_mode:0 nr_modes:35
09:04:03 apple-drm ... *ERROR* flip_done timed out
09:04:03 apple-drm ... *ERROR* [CRTC:58:crtc-1] commit wait timed out

The fallback rule was removed after the test.

## What happened

On an Apple MacBook Pro (16-inch, M1 Pro, 2021), connecting a Philips 288E2 over the built-in HDMI port causes the external monitor to show **No input** and makes Hyprland/Omarchy unresponsive. The failure occurs both on hot-plug and after a cold boot with the monitor already connected.

The kernel initially detects the monitor and its 35 advertised modes. It then repeatedly tears down and recreates the Apple DP-to-HDMI link. `apple-drm` subsequently reports `flip_done timed out` / `commit wait timed out`; Hyprland becomes unresponsive, so a compositor-level DPMS recovery cannot run.

## Expected

The HDMI output should stay connected and render normally, or the desktop should recover without hanging the active session.

## Environment

- Omarchy `4.0.2-2`
- `linux-asahi 7.1.13.asahi1-1` (`7.1.13-1-1-ARCH`)
- Hyprland `0.56.2-3`
- Aquamarine `0.15.0-2`
- MacBook Pro (16-inch, M1 Pro, 2021); extracted Apple firmware reports 13.5
- Built-in `HDMI-A-1` (Apple's internal DP-to-HDMI bridge)
- Philips 288E2 (detected as `Philips Consumer Electronics Company PHL 288E2`), direct HDMI connection

`omarchy debug --no-sudo --print` is not available in this Omarchy release, so no debug bundle could be generated.

## Reproduction

1. Boot with the Philips monitor attached to the built-in HDMI port, or attach it to an active Omarchy session.
2. The monitor reports **No input** shortly after detection; the desktop becomes unresponsive.

The same monitor works from Windows. Replacing the cable, power-cycling the monitor, cold-booting with it connected, and disabling third-party plugins did not change the failure.

## 1080p/60 fallback also fails

An explicit Hyprland rule was tested:

```lua
hl.monitor({ output = "HDMI-A-1", mode = "1920x1080@60", position = "auto", scale = 1 })
```

The rule was applied by the driver, but did not prevent the link failure. The relevant sequence was:

```text
09:04:03 apple-drm ... *ERROR* flip_done timed out
The fallback rule was removed after the test.
