Original report
BCM43602 WiFi signal extremely weak (-90 dBm) on MacBook Pro 2015-2017
Hardware
- MacBookPro13,3 (2016, 15" Touch Bar) and similar 2015-2017 models
- Broadcom BCM43602 (PCI ID: 14e4:43ba, rev 02)
- Omarchy 4.x / kernel 7.2.x
Problem
WiFi signal is extremely weak — -90 dBm at 1 meter from router. The card associates but the signal is unusable past ~1 meter.
$ iw dev wlp3s0 link
signal: -90 dBm
rx bitrate: 54.0 MBit/s
tx bitrate: 36.0 MBit/sRoot Cause
The brcmfmac driver loads a generic NVRAM config that lacks proper power amplifier settings and antenna gain parameters for the MacBook's hinge-antenna design.
What Didn't Fix It
options brcmfmac feature_disable=0x82000— fixes WPA handshake, NOT signaloptions cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=US— fixes regulatory domain, NOT signalroamoff=1— reduces scanning retries, NOT signal- NVRAM config from Andy Holst (Bugzilla #193121) — helps channels, NOT signal
All help with connecting but NOT signal strength.
Solution
Install cristianmiranda's improved NVRAM config which has proper board flags, antenna gain, and power amplifier parameters specific to MacBookPro13,3:
curl -fLO https://gist.githubusercontent.com/cristianmiranda/ba9d64b4324f0803d9422d765de62252/raw/brcmfmac43602-pcie.txt
sed -i "s/^macaddr=.*/macaddr=$(cat /sys/class/net/wlp3s0/address)/" brcmfmac43602-pcie.txt
sudo install -Dm644 brcmfmac43602-pcie.txt /usr/lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43602-pcie.txt
sudo limine-mkinitcpio
sudo rebootResult
| Metric | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Signal | -90 dBm | -58 dBm |
| 5GHz speed | Unusable | 360 MBit/s |
32 dBm improvement — 5GHz now works reliably at full speed.

# BCM43602 WiFi signal extremely weak (-90 dBm) on MacBook Pro 2015-2017 ## Hardware - MacBookPro13,3 (2016, 15" Touch Bar) and similar 2015-2017 models - Broadcom BCM43602 (PCI ID: 14e4:43ba, rev 02) - Omarchy 4.x / kernel 7.2.x ## Problem WiFi signal is extremely weak — **-90 dBm** at 1 meter from router. The card associates but the signal is unusable past ~1 meter. ``` $ iw dev wlp3s0 link signal: -90 dBm rx bitrate: 54.0 MBit/s tx bitrate: 36.0 MBit/s ``` ## Root Cause The `brcmfmac` driver loads a generic NVRAM config that lacks proper power amplifier settings and antenna gain parameters for the MacBook's hinge-antenna design. ## What Didn't Fix It 1. `options brcmfmac feature_disable=0x82000` — fixes WPA handshake, NOT signal 2. `options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=US` — fixes regulatory domain, NOT signal 3. `roamoff=1` — reduces scanning retries, NOT signal 4. NVRAM config from Andy Holst (Bugzilla #193121) — helps channels, NOT signal All help with **connecting** but NOT **signal strength**. ## Solution Install [cristianmiranda's improved NVRAM config](https://gist.github.com/cristianmiranda/ba9d64b4324f0803d9422d765de62252) which has proper board flags, antenna gain, and power amplifier parameters specific to MacBookPro13,3: ```bash curl -fLO https://gist.githubusercontent.com/cristianmiranda/ba9d64b4324f0803d9422d765de62252/raw/brcmfmac43602-pcie.txt sed -i "s/^macaddr=.*/macaddr=$(cat /sys/class/net/wlp3s0/address)/" brcmfmac43602-pcie.txt sudo install -Dm644 brcmfmac43602-pcie.txt /usr/lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43602-pcie.txt sudo limine-mkinitcpio sudo reboot ``` ## Result | Metric | Before | After | |--------|--------|-------| | Signal | -90 dBm | -58 dBm | | 5GHz speed | Unusable | 360 MBit/s | 32 dBm improvement — 5GHz now works reliably at full speed. ## PR https://github.com/omacom/omarchy/pull/11620 /cc @adamavenir (existing Broadcom fix in #1022) /cc @andyholst (Bugzilla #193121 NVRAM config)
