Original report
System
- MacBookPro11,5 (2015, pre-T2, Intel-only mode via module_blacklist=amdgpu,radeon)
- Omarchy 4.x, kernel 7.2.3-arch1-3
- 15G RAM, 15.5G btrfs swapfile (prio 0) + zram, resume hook present, resume=/dev/mapper/root resume_offset=1936537 verified live in /proc/cmdline
- /sys/power/disk default:
[platform] shutdown
What happens
systemctl hibernate(stock config, no HibernateMode override): writes the image, powers the machine fully off. No reboot.- Press power: normal boot splash to ~20%, then the screen shows the pre-hibernate state (lock screen with password prompt) completely frozen: no mouse, no keyboard input accepted.
- Only recovery is a hard power-off. The failed resume boot leaves no journal (hangs before anything reaches disk); the hibernating boot's log ends at
PM: hibernation: hibernation entrywith no snapshotting lines after it.
Why this matters for #10038
The 11,1 reporter sees reboot-instead-of-poweroff with working resume. This 11,5 shows the mirror image: poweroff works under platform mode, but resume hangs with dead input (consistent with USB-attached internal keyboard/trackpad never coming back, though unproven). A HibernateMode=shutdown quirk cannot deliver working hibernate here; resume has to be fixed first. Tested via PR #11345, now withdrawn.
Suggested next step
Someone with 11,5 hardware and a serial/netconsole setup could capture where restore stalls; without that, hibernate on this model is session loss dressed as a feature and the menu entry probably should not be offered.
