ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

imv.desktop uses `imv %F`, so opening an image from a file manager gives a one-image playlist and Left/Right never navigaterevision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

System details

Intel i9-12900K, NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti, Omarchy 4.0.3-1 (Quattro), imv 5.0.1-2

Not hardware specific — the cause is a packaged file, so this reproduces on any install.

What's wrong?

Opening an image from a file manager (or xdg-open) gives imv a one-image playlist, so Left/Right (prev/next) do nothing. Up/Down still zoom, which makes it look like the arrow keys are half-broken rather than like there's nothing to navigate to.

Cause: applications/imv.desktop in this repo — installed to ~/.local/share/applications/imv.desktop — uses:

Exec=imv %F

A file manager passes only the file you clicked, so imv loads exactly that one image. imv does not scan the containing directory on its own.

Fix: the imv package already ships /usr/bin/imv-dir for exactly this:

#!/bin/sh -efu
if [ $# -ge 2 ]; then
  exec imv "$@"
else
  exec imv -n "$1" "$(dirname "$1")"
fi

So applications/imv.desktop just needs:

Exec=imv-dir %F

That opens the whole containing folder and starts on the clicked image, and passes a multi-file selection through unchanged. Existing installs would also need a migration, since the file is copied into ~/.local/share/applications/ at install time.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Put two or more images in a folder.
  2. Open one of them from Nautilus (or xdg-open image.jpg).
  3. Press Left or Right — nothing happens. Press Up or Down — zoom works.
  4. imv *.jpg from a terminal in that folder — arrows work, confirming the binds are fine and the playlist is the problem.

Note on #4050

This was reported in #4050 and closed with "Arrow keys only work when you open multiple images at once." That's accurate about imv's behaviour but reads as working-as-intended, and three people commented afterwards that it still isn't what they expect from an image viewer. Opening a folder's worth of images from one click is standard behaviour (eog, gwenview, feh via feh .), and imv-dir exists upstream specifically to provide it, so this looks like a one-line packaging fix rather than a user expectation problem.
