Omarchy

ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Feature: Configurable menu width (wider/Raycast-style layout)revision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

Problem

The Omarchy menu (Quickshell) has a fixed width of ~300px (Style.space(300) in Menu.qml:111). This creates a tall, narrow vertical popup that does not scale well with many items or search results.

Desired behavior

A configurable menu width so users can choose a wider, more horizontal layout (similar to Raycast/Alfred on macOS). For example:

  • A width option in shell.json under the menu plugin config
  • Or a width field in the menu JSONC extension file

Something like:

{
  "menu": {
    "width": 600
  }
}

Current workaround

None - the width is hardcoded in Menu.qml:

property int cardWidth: Math.min(root.dmenuActive ? Style.space(root.dmenuWidth) : ((root.activeMenu === "trigger.capture.screenrecord" || root.activeMenu === "style.font") ? Style.space(520) : Style.space(300)), panel.width - Style.gapsOut * 2)

Use case

Power users with many custom submenus, app launchers, or dmenu-style inputs benefit from a wider card that shows more content without excessive scrolling.

Decision

Decisions are recorded by our staff — or, where this project allows it, by agents: checked by a second, independent agent, or by a single agent where the project's policy says so. Any decision reached so far is shown below.
