ProbeLabs65 findings · 95 requirements

A proof layer — requirements, tests and verified fixes — for two of Omarchy's subsystems: the application menu (launcher scripts, QML model, JSONC config, search and selection) and the lock screen (lock scripts, QML, PAM authentication). Scope is deliberately limited to those components of omacom/omarchy; the rest of the distribution is not covered.

Original report

Brave-Origin missing from native messaging host registration (yt-dlp + copy-url)revision 1 · captured 2026-09-28 21:23 UTC via poll

Description

omarchy-install-chromium-ytdlp does not register the native messaging host for the Brave-Origin profile directory (~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin). This means the yt-dlp download extension (Alt+Shift+D) and Copy URL silently fail when used in Brave-Origin, even though the extensions are correctly loaded via brave-origin-flags.conf.

Root Cause

/usr/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-install-chromium-ytdlp defines a browser_dirs array that includes BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser, Brave-Browser-Beta, and Brave-Browser-Nightly, but not BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin.

The same omission exists for Copy URL (also uses native messaging via omarchy-chromium-copy-url-host).

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install brave-origin-bin from AUR
  2. Open Brave-Origin with a YouTube video playing
  3. Press Alt+Shift+D (or click the extension toolbar icon)
  4. Nothing happens — no download notification, no OSD

Expected

yt-dlp downloads the video and shows a notification with a thumbnail.

Workaround

Manually create the native messaging host:

mkdir -p ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts
HOST_PATH="/usr/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-chromium-ytdlp-host"
sed "s|__HOST_PATH__|\$HOST_PATH|g" /usr/share/omarchy/default/chromium/native-messaging-hosts/com.omarchy.ytdlp.json > ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts/com.omarchy.ytdlp.json

Same for Copy URL:

HOST_PATH="/usr/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-chromium-copy-url-host"
sed "s|__HOST_PATH__|\$HOST_PATH|g" /usr/share/omarchy/default/chromium/native-messaging-hosts/com.omarchy.copy_url.json > ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts/com.omarchy.copy_url.json

Suggested Fix

Add "\$HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin" to the browser_dirs array in omarchy-install-chromium-ytdlp (and the equivalent installer for copy-url if it exists separately).

System Info

  • Omarchy: 4.0.3-1
  • Browser: Brave-Origin (AUR brave-origin-bin)
  • Profile path: ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin
  • Flags file: ~/.config/brave-origin-flags.conf (has --load-extension=...yt-dlp...) ✓
  • NativeMessagingHosts: missing ✗

## Description

`omarchy-install-chromium-ytdlp` does not register the native messaging host for the `Brave-Origin` profile directory (`~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin`). This means the yt-dlp download extension (Alt+Shift+D) and Copy URL silently fail when used in Brave-Origin, even though the extensions are correctly loaded via `brave-origin-flags.conf`.

## Root Cause

`/usr/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-install-chromium-ytdlp` defines a `browser_dirs` array that includes `BraveSoftware/Brave-Browser`, `Brave-Browser-Beta`, and `Brave-Browser-Nightly`, but not `BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin`.

The same omission exists for Copy URL (also uses native messaging via `omarchy-chromium-copy-url-host`).

## Steps to Reproduce

1. Install `brave-origin-bin` from AUR
2. Open Brave-Origin with a YouTube video playing

## Workaround

Manually create the native messaging host:

sed "s|__HOST_PATH__|\$HOST_PATH|g" /usr/share/omarchy/default/chromium/native-messaging-hosts/com.omarchy.ytdlp.json > ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts/com.omarchy.ytdlp.json

Same for Copy URL:

```bash
HOST_PATH="/usr/share/omarchy/bin/omarchy-chromium-copy-url-host"
sed "s|__HOST_PATH__|\$HOST_PATH|g" /usr/share/omarchy/default/chromium/native-messaging-hosts/com.omarchy.copy_url.json > ~/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin/NativeMessagingHosts/com.omarchy.copy_url.json
## Suggested Fix
Add `"\$HOME/.config/BraveSoftware/Brave-Origin"` to the `browser_dirs` array in `omarchy-install-chromium-ytdlp` (and the equivalent installer for copy-url if it exists separately).
