What's wrong?

In shell/plugins/bar/Bar.qml (lines 1814–1817), ModuleSlot calculates its dimensions as:

implicitWidth: activeItem && activeItem.visible ? (root.vertical ? root.barSize : activeItem.implicitWidth) : 0
implicitHeight: activeItem && activeItem.visible ? activeItem.implicitHeight : 0
width: implicitWidth
height: implicitHeight

When external script, plugin, or shell code sets slot.visible = false on a ModuleSlot, the slot does not collapse in width or height because implicitWidth only checks activeItem && activeItem.visible, ignoring slot.visible.

Because ModuleSlot is laid out in a Row (or Column) with spacing: 0, an invisible slot whose activeItem is still marked visible retains its positive implicitWidth and width, leaving an empty gap on the bar.

To collapse the slot to 0 pixels, callers are currently forced to set both slot.visible = false and slot.activeItem.visible = false.

Suggested Fix

In Bar.qml line 1814:

implicitWidth: slot.visible && activeItem && activeItem.visible ? (root.vertical ? root.barSize : activeItem.implicitWidth) : 0
implicitHeight: slot.visible && activeItem && activeItem.visible ? activeItem.implicitHeight : 0

This ensures that whenever a slot is hidden (slot.visible = false), its implicit dimensions evaluate to 0 and the bar layout collapses cleanly without requiring mutations on the child activeItem.

(Note: In addition, under the 4.0.3 scoped plugin API in `shell/shell.qml`, `pluginShellForBarEntry(key, moduleName)` passes `allowOwnService: false` for custom QML bar entries loaded via `source: ...`. This prevents custom sub-widgets in the bar belonging to the same plugin namespace from looking up their parent plugin's background service via `bar.shell.serviceFor(pluginId)`.)
